ENHANCING WORSHIP

St. Edward parish joyfully experience life in Christ through the celebration of the sacraments and to the growth in faith of all the parish community. All are invited to experience the life in Christ through participation in the sacraments and grow in the love of Christ as we share with others.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are entrusted with helping give the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. They are called “extraordinary” because priests and deacons are considered the “ordinary” ministers of Holy Communion. The assistance of lay ministers is needed at Mass so the Precious Blood can be offered to the assembly. Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion must have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. They promise to administer the Holy Eucharist with the utmost care and reverence and to be examples of Christian living in faith and conduct. If you feel Christ is calling you to help serve his Body and Blood, please call the office. A parish training program is provided at least once a year. Contact Kathy Carnegie at 616-262-9095.

LECTORS

“ The liturgy of the Word is to be celebrated in such a way as to promote meditation, and so any sort of hast that hinders recollection must clearly be avoided. “(General Instructions of the Roman Missel #56)

Lectors are men and women of the parish who proclaim the first and second readings during the liturgy of the Word. Their participation enhances the celebration of the Holy Mass, as well as other liturgical services. A training program is provided. Please call the parish office for more information.

CHOIR

St Edward has a choir for the Christmas Vigil Mass. Lisa Nelson provides times for the members to practice together for the Vigil Mass.

Altar Servers

Altar servers assist the celebrant of the Mass, in a ministry that is most conspicuous. Servers bear the processional cross, the candles, and generally serve the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist. Altar Servers are boys and girls (fifth grade and older) of the parish who have gone through training and are familiar with the worship space and the sanctuary. There are training programs conducted during the year. For more information call the parish office.
